A Symbol of Hope (soon with a roof)
Maliaki sends his greetings to everyone. He was delighted to stop by a few days ago to bring us the news that the walls on the classrooms are up! They’ve bricked up the gables, and are now getting ready to put on the roof. They’ve also broken ground on the teachers’ house, with a slightly modified plan. Instead of the original design of 3x 1-room apartments, they’ve decided instead to build 2x 2-room apartments, with basic plumbing and a separate sleeping room. They’ll still be basic to western standards, but I think the Maasai teachers are going to be very very comfortable in the new design. I was happy to compliment Maliaki and Yona on an excellent design.
Within the next week or two, we’re expecting the regional engineer to come visit the school site and give it his blessing to continue. That’s a big step, but it looks very likely to happen quickly – the regional chair came to see the school and was effusive in his praise to Maliaki, Yona, and the rest of MAPED. The brickwork is being done well, the school building looks good, and more than that, it symbolizes a hope and a future for the next generation.
To those of you who have been and who continue to be a part of this amazing project, thank you from MAPED’s leadership (and from all of us here at Pamoja too!). What’s being accomplished in Orbili is an unthinkable achievement for a small but dedicated band of Maasai Christians who believe that they can reach their own people with a message of hope for all areas of life.
