We arrived in Merritt and met up with Jeremy’s cousins James and Lori. We rested just a little and then heard that there was a high school hockey tournament going on in town. We has a little time before dinner, so why not? Off we went. And before we hit the rink, there was a pile of ice shavings outside next to the parking lot. Of course, this meant an impromptu snowball fight of sorts.
Inside the rink, Jeremy explained the game and the Maasai quickly picked a team to root for. They were completely enthralled in the game. Even Eva was on the edge of her seat, jumping when “our team” scored a goal. Although, as Maliaki said, it looked a little rough.
A great outing and now we can say that the Maasai have experienced Canadian hockey.
