Four-Wheeled Madness
As we pulled into the driveway of the Daigles’ house in Iowa, Louisiana, Maliaki and Yona were busy telling everyone about what a great time they had there in 2009. Sure enough, the 4-wheeler came out again, and craziness ensued as each of the Maasai in turn began the process of learning to drive a 4-wheeler. Ezekiel was, as usual, sure of himself. Petro was far more cautious. Maliaki enjoyed himself, and Yona looked like he had something to prove.
Each of the ladies also tried driving, (with me riding back-seat). Elisaba quickly got the hang of it, Neema managed to restrain terror the whole time (and got not too bad at it!) and Namayani was as erratic as a… 13 year old who had never been in control of an ATV before.
Elisaba eventually decided to try a run by herself, and when that went fine, she announced that now, she was going to “go fast”. Which she did. Until at about the half way mark, she and the quad went opposite directions. She picked herself up (no permanent damage done) and the rest of the Maasai laughed with(at?) her. She drove back more sedately and declared that “these machines aren’t safe”. Sounds like some other mothers I know. On behalf of the whole team, a big thank you to the Daigles for being such wonderful hosts.
