Nemburis Jr.
I met Nemburis last week out in Lerumo. She lives in Yona’s boma, but Yona only has one wife, and she’s not one of his kids, so I think she must be a niece.
Nemburis smiled and smiled and smiled. She taught me words in Maa, and hid under my skirt, and she let me spin her around. She sat on my lap, sat beside me in my chair, she held my hand as we walked.
I’d go away to meet with the 9 who I’m traveling with this summer, and when I’d come back, she’d be there waiting to play with me. I really have no idea what she did when I wasn’t there.
It’s little girls like this that inspired the En-kata photobook project. It’s because of girls like this that we’re going on tour this summer. It’s for girls like this that we’re hoping to build a school in Maasailand.
I remember this Nemburis from the last time I was out there! She has an incredible smile, and she wears it endlessly, doesn’t she? Wonderful.
